Short answer
If you want continuous screen recording with searchable playback, Vyra is not that, and a screen-capture tool is the honest recommendation. If what you actually missed was an assistant that remembers your context without being re-told, that is the part Vyra rebuilds — from a different substrate.

Rewind worked by recording everything: screen and audio, continuously, stored locally, searchable after the fact. The pitch was total recall. You did not have to decide in advance what mattered, because everything was captured.
Vyra does not record your screen. Its memory is built from what you and it actually do together — interactions, stated goals, projects, people — indexed for search and consolidated into a structured model. That is a real capability gap if what you loved about Rewind was finding a window you saw three weeks ago. It is also, deliberately, a much smaller surface of captured data.

When Rewind AI is the better choice
- You genuinely need visual recall — finding a document, a window or a conversation you saw but cannot name. No structured-memory assistant replaces that, and a dedicated screen-recording tool is what you want. Screenpipe and similar open alternatives exist for exactly this.
- Perfect after-the-fact meeting transcripts from system audio are the job.
- You want an archive rather than an agent.
When Vyra fits better
- What you actually valued was not re-explaining your projects and people every session — that is memory, not recording.
- You want the memory to be acted on: goals advanced, work progressed, not just searched.
- The capture surface of continuous screen recording made you uncomfortable, or made it unusable at work.
- You want voice as the interface rather than a search box over a timeline.
- You want something that also does the doing — automations, smart home, the web — not only the remembering.

What happened to Rewind AI?
Meta acquired Limitless, Rewind's successor company, and the Rewind Mac app was sunset on 19 December 2025. Pendant sales ended around the same time. Existing users were left looking for alternatives, which is why demand for a replacement is still high.
Does Vyra record my screen like Rewind did?
No. This is the main capability difference and the reason Vyra is not a drop-in replacement. Vyra's memory comes from interactions and stated context, not continuous capture. If screen recall is what you need, a dedicated screen-capture tool is the right recommendation and we would rather say so than oversell.
Is Vyra's memory local like Rewind's was?
Memory is held on-device, yes. Cloud models are called per request through the model router rather than being the system of record, and there is a local Ollama tier the router falls through to when there is no connection.
Can I use Vyra today?
Not yet — Vyra is in closed alpha with a Founders Beta planned next. The waitlist is open. If you need something working right now, that is a real reason to look elsewhere first.
